Run Ecuador was born with an environmental Mission
The challenge: in 2010 we decided to run 21 kilometers in each of the 24 provinces of our country, Ecuador, for a cause: the protection of the Yasuní National Park, one of the last ecological reserves in the world and the most biodiverse.
At 7am on Sunday 10/10/10 we started the first route in Imbabura, and then every month in the 24 provinces. We accomplished our challenge two years later, in September 9, 2012 in the Yasuní National Park.
Raising awareness… our results were:
638 runners and organization
24 running routes
160 press publications
That is our history, and our mission continues. We now insist in the protection of the Yasuní and the mitigation of the damage caused every day by the oil exploitation.
Our next goals are:
To volunteer in the USFQ Cientific Station every two years.
To pick up the garbage we find in the roads we run, and work with the communities in cleaning their areas through an environmental education program.
To hire local runners as guides and every year we do a contest with the runners. The winner gets a free tour for two people in Run Ecuador.
We have explored the most scenic, diverse and safe trails for our visitors to enjoy them.
