World Travel Awards recognize the best of South and Central American tourism in Quito

A host of industry leaders celebrated after the winners were revealed at the World Travel Awards in the South and Central America Gala Ceremony 2016.

In front of an elite industry audience at the Centro Cultural Itchimbia, in the Ecuadorian capital, Quito, this city was awarded with the prestigious World Travel Awards trophy of South America’s Leading Destination.

Ecuador also took the title of South America’s Leading Green Destination.

It is a friendly city located on a high valley and rests in mount Pichincha. It has a clear view of snow peaked mountains: Cotopaxi, Cayambe, Antisana. Quito’s colonial street, La Ronda, is a very cool nightspot.

Baños is a small town situated in a valley of waterfalls and hot springs. It has a relaxed atmosphere, cozy hostels and good food.

The Amazon is Ecuador’s main treasure as well as the Galapagos Islands.

Jump aboard lovely old carriages and embark on the spectacular Devil’s Nose train ride. It starts in Latacunga, capital of the province of Cotopaxi, exceptional way to contemplate the Volcano Avenue of the Andes: Ilaló, Pasochoa, Rumiñahui, Cotopaxi, Pichincha, Atacazo, Corazón, Ilinizas, among others.

Visit the city of Cuenca which has a distinctive old-world air and is possibly the most attractive city in Ecuador. Home to many 16th- and 17th-century buildings, the city’s history is well preserved, earning Cuenca the honor of being listed as a World Heritage site.
